Poem: ‘Finding Oneself’

So whilst travelling, I’ve seen a lot of different people from very different modes of life, the starkest contrast being between very poor inhabitants of some countries and privileged travellers such as ourselves. I guess that’s what inspired the slightly jaded piece below.

To find one’s self is a luxury,

Possible only in security,

For when food needs finding,

And a roof needs mending,

Who has time to whine,

“Will I ever find my destiny?”

Now, just so you all know, I am not enthralled by my job despite all the securities it affords me and wish to ‘find myself’ and my destiny as well – and believe I can do so through creative writing, and perhaps one day (far, far, far away) I can even pursue this passion full time! And so the above is a reality check for myself, as well as anything, to keep things in perspective when I’m feeling all ‘lost’ and ‘unsure’.

Thanks for stopping by!
